Hajia Fati begs for forgiveness

Under siege New Patriotic Party zealot, Hajia Fati is on her knees begging for forgiveness after physically assaulting a journalist from the Multimedia Group stables.

Hajia has come under a barrage of condemnation from media practitioners and institutions as well as social groupings after she admitted slapping a journalist, Charity Ohemaa Sakyiwaa while the latter was covering official ceremonies at the NPP headquarters on Friday.

Hajia who had initially defended her action on the premise that she had considered the journalist to be an onion seller and also mistook her for a hireling of an estranged party official, now says she was wrong and wants to be forgiven by the journalism fraternity.

“I’m on my knees begging you people. I don’t have any grudge with any pressman. But what came ‘no’ it was a mistake so please, you people should forgive me. I’m on my knees, please forgive me,” she pleaded tearfully Wednesday morning at the venue of the assault.

The police have since the incident taken statements from Hajia and her victim and have indicated readiness to prosecute the case after investigations.

Media groupings, among them the Ghana Journalists Association and the Association of Women in the Media, have vowed to see to the conclusive prosecution of the case to stem the rising incidents of assault on media practitioners lawfully engaged in their duties.

The New Patriotic Party has since condemned the attack and distanced the party from Hajia’s actions, while the National Democratic Congress which has also condemned that assault, has asked President Akufo-Addo to rein in party followers from further violent acts.

Ohemaa Sakyiwaa claims she had taken photographs of Hajia Fati in readiness to speak with her for physically frustrating efforts by the party’s suspended 3rd vice chairman, Sammy Crabbe to pick up nomination forms to contest a national executive position in the party, however, without warning, Hajia gave her a slap.
